March 2009
Time has a way of disappearing under foot like grains of sand !!! Oh my goodness.
I have meant to post my thoughts many times and something else has cropped up.
I think I will start posting on my blog and may even remove this page soon. I suppose I am
not thinking of the dreaded poison so much and that's why I am not writing here.
Therefore, take heart, the cravings lessen, the numbing feeling you get from alcohol
is not so much of a 'pull' either. When I am sad I don't turn to alcohol now I use other strategies to
diffuse these feelings such as talking, emailing, texting others for support and distracting myself with other activities - anything ...

Hi there,
FEBRUARY 2008 already...what happened...!!!
I got past the 14th with flowers and chocolates no problem and didn't crave a drink at all...maybe I am finally settling down. I don't think of drinking alcohol several times a day anymore either...Thank Goodness for that then.
Can't stay long and I do apologise for not being on for a while but I will be back with more info later...may be after Easter now...another milestone.

Happy New Year
Well it's 2008 already, and I just had 2 mouthfuls of Moet et Chandon (Champagne) and it was delicious...I have waited 8 months for that...BUT and this is the biggest surprise of all, I don't want anymore....that was an hour ago and I am so far so good...
I started taking Kudzu on 15th December 2007 to build up for this event, it supposedly reduces your craving for alcohol, and will continue to take it until middle of January 2008. It appears to be working at the moment...
I will keep you updated with how I am getting on...Good or Bad !
Doctors can assess you and make a decision with you as to whether other drugs such as Naltrexone or Campral may be better for you, please seek advice if this problem is worrying you or getting worse.
Don't forget if you need support just contact me,with no judging or condemnation, I'm only a click away angeljinna
We are now on the evening of 26th December and I made it through my first 'dry' Christmas...did you??? Well, I hope so.
Boxing Day already and peace reigns in the house, the non-alcoholic drinks went down a treat and no-one complained. Looking forward to new Year now...we'll see what that brings...Good Luck to all of you going for a Happy and HEALTHY New Year in 2008 !
Feel free to contact me for support if you need it,
My thoughts at this time of the year - midway through December are of Happy Christmas's, presents and the children's happiness. Of course my primary thought is that it is Jesus's birthday and how happy we are to celebrate a birthday, especially one so special.
But my other thoughts turn to having a 'bevvy', a heavy drinking session, this time last year (2006) I was worried about getting enough drinks in to last through the Christmas period, how many drinks I had to buy in case we had extra guests and I couldn't possibly run out - what a catastrophe that would have been !!
I feel for those who do have alcohol problems, everywhere we look there are adverts for wine, beer, lager, spirits and aperitifs. TV adverts are usually the worst because we see the person (usually glamourous, toned and honed to perfection) pouring the drink, then looking at it lovingly and then savouring the taste...hm, what I wouldn't give to change places...
I have my own strategies involving avoidance techniques such as go and put a load of washing in the machine during the adverts, turn the page that little bit more quickly in a magazine etc. The worst for me being the supermarket - I can't avoid that can I? The Christmas adverts pasted all down the aisle, with free tastings almost every week & cheery Santa Claus's and red nosed reindeers, at least I won't be red nosed this year ! What can we do to by-pass the supermarket aisles full of tempting 'booze' ? In a few supermarkets they have now put the alcohol aisle in the furthest aisle from the check-outs, this means that you don't have to go down that aisle, NO you don't...believe me it's not necessary !
The only way I managed to by-pass those in the middle of the store when I first stopped drinking was to look at the adjoining aisles linking each aisle together and pretend to myself that I was totally fascinated in support tights or some other equally intriguing item of clothing that is probably best not described here.
Now I have started enjoying the odd tipple of lager - alcohol free that is ! But I don't think I will have to give you 3 guesses as to where the ALCOHOL-FREE or non-alcoholic lager is sold, oh yes, it is slap - bang in the middle of the alcoholic drinks. This was a major problem for me at first, I had to use my children's chatter as a diversionary tactic. I don't know who was more surprised at this ...them or me ! Usually I need a bit of peace and quiet so I can remember what I need to buy.
I have asked the staff that work in that aisle if it could be moved to the edge of the aisle at least, but the blank stare and the standard reply told me all I need to know, in other words NO. All I can really suggest is go shopping with a friend or relative who knows you have a problem and ask them to buy the non-alcoholic stuff for you or distract you past the aisle.
Well for now I'm off, but I would like to wish all my visitors a Happy Christmas and prosperous New Year (you'll certainly be better off financially if you give up drinking...food for thought or should I say 'drink'?)

My two good frineds got married on the 13th March 2008...
Lovely wedding and reception in the evening. There were both kinds of drinks available but what with the good food, the excellent company and great music I was ok. Nobody noticed or cared that I didn't drink alcohol. I was happy and in party mood and so was everyone else.
----------------------------------------------
I am so far behind that Easter has also come and gone...not tempted at all! I feel so lucky that I am sober and happy too. I am still on the non-alcoholic stuff...or if I have gone out then I stick to soft drinks, sparkling water or that type of drink with ice and a slice (of lemon or lime or both !)
---------------------------------------------
Woo Hoo
for me....I have made it to 1 YEAR sober...no hangovers, brilliant weight loss (still more to go !), children are happy...what more could I ask for ?
----------------------------
How's it going ? Summer is here ! Well, I think so...ha ha. Time for barbecues and drinks in pub gardens ! Plenty of summer drinks can be had without having to down a few 'units' of alcohol...honestly !
I am going in search of some more non-alcoholic cocktails and drinks and when I find some good ones (tested of course !) I will post here and let you know ...
Please contact me !! I have been asking everyone to email..but so far only a couple of emails ....bye for now and look forward to chatting with you all.x
---------------------------------
End of summer and I feel like I haven't got a thing done !! Had a weeks break and went where alcohol was served every night... tempted ... didn't give in ...Remember if I can do it ...so can you.
Plenty of resources and support around if you need it...go to my
Non - alcoholic drinks ...only had time to test a few ...never mind.
* Schloer Buck's Fizz
* Supermarket 'own brand' adult soft drinks - mostly these are good copies of the more well known brand name drinks, a worthwhile drink to buy if you are on a budget and want to buy in bulk...
* Beers, lager s - I have tried Becks, kaliber & many other brands....these are brilliant if you are a beer/lager drinker as there are styles for everyone, from 'hoppy' flavours to malt or bitter tastes, I say get out there and get tasting !
* Tesco own brand low alcohol cider -I just want to say that for me I am able to drink low alcohol drinks (Less than 0.5% alcohol) without feeling the need to progress to higher alcohol percentage drinks.
If you are on
The same with diabetics (sugar content wasn't a problem for me - except I am on a diet !).
For those of you in the UK, you can buy Non or Low - alcohol drinks

Christmas and this is my 2nd sober one ... has much changed in one year ...YES !!
Last year was difficult in terms of cravings and my way of thinking felt that I was deprived, that it's not fair I could not drink while others can ... Well this year my mindset has changed. I am fortunate that mine has changed over time, without therapy or in-depth soul searching, it works for some but I have never been a reflector ... time alone has changed my
''drinking - thoughts''
I no longer think of drinking daily, nor crave the alcohol so badly that I have to have a drink. Don't get me wrong though, I still have cravings but when they come I am able to dismiss it as silly because I 'don't NEED' the drink anymore ... not getting
Complacency is one of the biggest enemies of those with alcohol problems.
Wishing you all a Happy and 'Sober' Christmas 2008 ...
